Congo Democratic Ecological Tax

After reaching the end of their service life, consumer goods/appliances must be disposed of in accordance with local recycling and waste management regulations, whether due to condition, obsolescence, or damage. Electronic waste (e-waste) and second-hand products are serious public health and environmental issues that the Democratic Republic of Congo is actively addressing.

The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) Ecological Taxation Program is a self funded end-to-end risk-based assessment project that includes mechanisms for implementing inspections (if necessary) and levying ecological taxes on exporters to support and fund waste management of certain regulated products (including new and old pneumatic tires, electrical and electronic equipment, etc.) until the end of their useful life.

The main benefit of this project is to ensure that any waste is exported to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) without the consent of the authorities. Intertek is only commissioned by the Ecologie et D é evelopement Durable (EDD) to collect ecological taxes and fees on all regulated products (new and old electrical and electronic equipment (EEE), pneumatic tires, etc.) on behalf of the Democratic Republic of Congo Environmental Intervention Fund (FIPE) government entity.
